Cogeneration Feasibility Study using an Engine Driven Blower at the Figueroa Wastewater Treatment Plant, Yuma
WCE completed part of a study to determine if it is feasible to use a digester fueled internal combustion engine to drive an aeration blower and to use the reject heat from the engine to heat the digesters or dry digested sludge. An engine driven blower would significantly reduce the purchase of electrical energy at the wastewater treatment plant and the waste heat could be recovered to reduce present sludge heating requirements and/or used for drying sludge prior to disposal. WCE completed and submitted their recommendations regarding AZ DEQ and Federal Regulations associated with operating a continuously run gas-fueled engine. Regulations were studied to determine emission standards for particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and carbon monoxide and any other regulations associated with waste gas combustion.
